Fuvahmulah Island in the Maldives is a haven of pelagic species. Visitors may encounter tiger sharks, hammerhead sharks, oceanic mantas, and whale sharks. Additionally, the island is surrounded by a diverse array of shark species, including silver-tip sharks, Grey and white-tip reef sharks, and, which are observable year-round. In addition to this, you may also witness other oceanic marvels, including Mola mola, oceanic mantas, and whale sharks.
Fuvahmulah is a huge island approximately 4.5 km long and 1.2 km broad with a population of 13,000 and is an atoll unlike any other Maldives island. Fuvahmulah is a UNESCO biosphere reserve on the southern coast of Maldives, below the zero degree equator.
Why Tiger Sharks are there? Because of the geographic location and the topography, is home to a great variety of shark and pelagic species. The island towers up from the deep ocean much like a vertical cliff, consequently attracting a huge diversity of sharks and other pelagic life that utilize the surrounding reef for cleaning, feeding, and mating. This makes diving great all year round making each dive exciting and adventurous.
There is always potential to observe sharks and maybe even some rare species.
The most frequently observed species include Tiger Sharks, Thresher sharks, Hammerheads, Whale sharks, Grey reefs, Silver tip, and White tip reef sharks along with a myriad of pelagic fish and countless colorful reef fish throughout the rich coral reefs.
